Connor learning to sign (sort of)

November 16th, 2008 by Donnie

Mommy has taught Connor how to sign “I love you”. The “I love you” sign is something Victoria and I will do frequently to each other and is something we have done to Connor since he was a newborn. I usually show him the sign and then wiggle it on his tummy (to tickle him). He loves that.

Well, he started to respond back to Victoria’s “I love you” sign by putting his hand in the hair when she would show him the sign. She then pushes the sign against his hand and he smiles.

We were doing it quite a bit at the breakfast table this morning and if you just turn to Connor and say “I love you”, he puts his hand up in the air as if to the sign. We then do the sign against his hand. It is so cute and makes us proud. Of course, he does not have the finger action down for the sign, but he is raising his hand as if to mimic what we are doing.

We love you, Connor!

Grandma asks, “Does Connor give kisses???”

November 16th, 2008 by Donnie

We dropped Connor off at my Mom’s house on Friday (Grandma’s house) because we had a wedding rehearsal to cover. I am always worried about Connor doing something for the first time when I am not around and my mom is in a friendly competition to get him to do things at her house first so she can rub it in to me.

So with walking on the horizon, I have been trying to get Connor to walk at our house so it can be his first. I try very hard, but he is not ready and I just pray that he doesn’t do it when Grandma or Mimi/Grandpa watch him. Well, another wedding weekend and another sigh of relief from Daddy — Connor did not walk for either of them yet. (Keep holding out for Daddy, Connor!)

Well, Grandma evidently has turned her sights to something else… Over the past couple of months she has been using a small squeezable cow to teach Connor to kiss. It has been slow going, but she has stuck with it (without really letting me know). If I knew, I would have been working on the “kiss” quite frantically at our house.

Anyways this is how the story goes…

We arrived at Grandma’s house to have dinner and then take Connor home after the wedding rehearsal on Friday evening. We sit down and Grandma turns to Mommy and says, “Does Connor gives kisses?” Now, that was out of the blue so I quickly put two and two together and came up with Grandma has been teaching Connor how to give kisses behind my back!!!!! I quickly turned to Grandma and said, “Why, did he kiss for you?” And she proudly said, “Yes.”

So she had Connor demonstrate. I held Connor and she said, “Connor can you KISS.” I said, “KISS” and he planted a lip and gum kiss on my cheek. Daddy was defeated by Grandma, but I was VERY PROUD that my son was showing signs of affection.

Thanks Grandma and THANK YOU Connor!

We love you both!

Connor, you continue to amaze us…

November 12th, 2008 by Donnie

Tonight after dinner I put Connor down on the kitchen floor as we cleaned up. He decided he wanted to push his high-chair around the kitchen. We thought it was pretty cool since the thing is twice his height and is NOT on wheels. He moved it we ease. As I was filming, I realized he was going to do a little bit more for us.

Watch to the end of the video you will see that he realized he was stuck. He tried to pull on it for a second, but couldn’t budge it. So, he walked around to the other side and decided to push it in the other direction.

Connor, you really impressed Mommy and Daddy with your show tonight.

Love,

Daddy

Where’s the honey?

I think Brenna the Bee was trying to tell Connor “Winnie the Pooh” where the bees keep their honey.

Connor and Aidan

November 7th, 2008 by Donnie

Aidan stopped by for Halloween the other day.  He was dressed as a dinosaur and Connor liked his long tail he had.  He tried to grab it a couple of times.  Aidan is 4 months older than Connor and has mastered walking and is now getting around by running as well.

It is cool watching Connor observe Aidan.  I can only imagine what is going through his mind.

Here are some pictures of the two of them.

A smart little boy…

November 7th, 2008 by Donnie

I was sitting in the family room with Connor the other day and decided just to watch him for a few minutes.  He soon grabbed his push walker and started walking all over the place.  The laundry basket was full of clothes and it was sitting on the floor near the couch.  He was trying to manuever around the couch and laundry basket with his push walker.

Well, he just couldn’t quite get the walker past the laundry basket so he decided to move the laundry basket.  I watched as he held on to his walker with one hand and moved the laundry basket with the other hand.  He only needed to slide it about 6 inches and was able to easily do this.  Once it was moved, he put his hand back on the push walker and then started on his way again.

This might be pretty typical of any child, but I just found it amazing.   I just sat there and smiled and said, “Good job, Connor.”  He turned his head towards me and just gave me a smile then he was on his way again.
