The last two weekends, Mommy and Daddy have gone out on “dates” without me.

This past Saturday, they went to see a movie and had Mimi and Grandpa babysit me.  Mommy and Daddy fed me before they left and then Mimi and Grandpa took me out for some ice cream and a walk around City Center.  We then stopped in Mommy’s favorite store (Ann Taylor’s Loft) and the clerk behind the counter “ratted” me and Mommy out.  She recognized me and asked where Mommy was.  Grandpa told Daddy later that Mommy and me go to Ann Taylor’s Loft so much that I am a “star” in there.

Anyways, I had some ice cream and then Mimi and Grandpa went out to dinner at Andrea’s Pizza.  I really like that place and had a 2nd dinner.

By the time I got home, I had a full tummy and was tired.  Mimi gave me a bath and put me to bed.  I slept all night and woke up after 8am the next morning!  What a fun night!

For the first 15 months of your life, Mommy and Daddy would only give you 1 bath a week.  You were just a clean little boy and didn’t need baths that much.  Also, Mommy and Daddy might have been a little lazy and didn’t want to give you baths that often.  Of course some would suggest we should give you a bath more often, but we always pointed to the fact that we learned in baby class and from our doctor that more than 1 bath a week was not necessary.

As you have been reading, over the past 4 weeks, we have had to give you 3 baths a day for 15 minutes each.  So, we went from 1 bath a week to 3 baths a day.  Boy, what a change.

Well, to get back to what the title of this posting is about…

When Daddy and Uncle Danny played sports as kids we would complain to Grandma that the other team cheated or the referee didn’t call a foul on the other player when they fouled us.  Grandma (our Mom) would simply tell us, “It all balances out.”  Of course Uncle Danny and I never really believed this and always thought the other team got the lucky breaks or special treatment.

Well, after 15 months of 1 bath a week to going to 3 baths a day for 6 weeks straight, I have one thing to say to you…”It all balances out.”

Grandma and Connor have this thing where whenever one of them sneezes or coughs, they laugh at one another.  Grandma’s been doing this with him since last fall. In the past couple of months, she taught him how to do a fake sneeze.  Alright, it was not the best of fake sneezes, but we new what it was.

Tonight as Grandma was giving Connor his “15 minute soak in the tub” as Mommy and Daddy started to load the car up, Grandma taught Connor how to do a better “fake sneeze”.  She has Connor actually saying “ahh-choo”.

“Mamma” and “Dadda” are part of his vocabulary but other words have not begun to flow just yet.  The two syllable “ahh-choo” is something that he quickly picked up on this evening.  He did it several times for us at Grandma’s house and then on the ride home he was “ahh-choo’ing” in the backseat.

Of course Mommy and Daddy tried to capitalize on this “learning moment” by getting him to say “cat” as well.  Connor quickly let us know who was in charge by returning with “ahh-choo”.

We are kind of tied to the house or better yet the tub as we continue to have to give him baths as part of his recovery (just another 3-4 weeks of the 15 min baths, 3 times a day).

Even so, Connor’s weekend has been a busy one so far…

He spent time with Grandma on Friday night as Mommy and Daddy went out to dinner.

Saturday was a full day and he only got two very short naps (about 20 mins each) as the three of us went to Yorktown Beach for a picnic and then over to Grandma’s house for spaghetti dinner and a little pool side fun.

When you are old enough to read this, please take your time and listen to my advice because there is some really helpful information in this posting…

Uncle Danny and Daddy would like to thank you for coming along.  Over the years, Daddy and Uncle Danny have been known to pick strawberries with Grandma (their Mom).  The tradition started some 26 years ago in Fredericksburg, Virginia (if Daddy remembers the story correctly).  Ever since we went to our first strawberry patch, Grandma started planting her own and we would partake in picking strawberries every now and then.  It is not that we did not like it, it just got a little dangerous for us (keep reading).

Back in May 2006, Uncle Danny and Daddy were celebrating Mother’s Day with Grandma and picked some strawberries from her strawberry patch in the backyard.  We were having fun that day and Grandma wanted to take a few pictures so she could add it to her scrapbook.

Little did we know that we had some company hanging out in the tree just behind us (look just above Uncle Danny’s head in the picture below)…

Here are a few pics of Connor picking strawberries in his strawberry patch at Grandma’s house.

Last Sunday, Connor celebrated Mother’s Day with Mommy and Mimi by going to City Center and having lunch with them.

Here are a couple of pics the proud mother took of her Mom and Connor.

Connor is doing well.  The catheter came out last Monday and we all were happy for that.  Connor is now walking much better and is getting back to being Connor.

We had a slight scare prior to the catheter coming out.  Our pediatrician diagnosed Connor with a topical staph infection.  He prescribed an ointment that would kill the MRSA staph.  (We were instructed to see the pediatrician by the surgeons nurse because the surgeon was out of the country at the time.)  So, we put the ointment on the “staph infection” as prescribed by the pediatrician.

When the surgeon saw the area that had developed a rash and we told her what was prescribed, she was not at all happy (with her nurse or our pediatrician).  So, my question (which I did not ask her) is why don’t the doctor’s call one another after such surgeries?  I mean they always ask for the primary care physician.  Why do they do that?  Just for sake of asking???  One prescribed something the other did not think was necessary.

Anyways…to make a long story short.  The surgeon said the rash was because we were applying too much of the original ointment and the area was to moist.  She said it was not a staph infection and was not MRSA.  She told us to stop using both ointments for 2 days and to give baths only.  She said after a couple of days the rash would go away and the repaired area would look MUCH better.

She was right!!!!  What a difference a couple of days made.

So…it was not a staph infection and Daddy/Mommy have learned to question everything the doctors tell and prescribed to us.

We have to continue with the baths for the next 5 weeks.
