Back to our routine???

January 31st, 2011 by Donnie

It’s been a tough two weeks…mainly stressful on us as Jacob has been recovering. It truly is amazing to see how quickly they bounce back from surgery!

He had the catheter removed today and the doctor says that she is amazed at how well he has healed and said “It looks great!”

Jacob went right back to his routine tonight…bottle at 7:45pm and was ready to be laid down by 8:15pm. Not a people out of him as he rolled over on his side and inserted his thumb into his mouth. It should be a quiet night as we don’t have to wake him to give him medicine, change his diaper, and/or check on the catheter. Ahhh…it seems like so long ago that we had a restful night! (Maybe I shouldn’t jinx it.)

Anyways…baths will have to continue 3 times a day for 6 more weeks. He has an antibiotic to finish up over the next 3 days and then no more medicine other than ointment to help with the healing.

Thanks for all you thoughts, prayers, and words of encourage. And thanks to everyone who helped out — give us a break by taking Connor away for a few hours or even a over-nighter. We appreciated it!

Jacob likes his squash! Watch how he kicks his legs and his waiting with an open mouth at times.

Jacob is recovering just fine…

January 21st, 2011 by Donnie

He’s back to eating like normal and sleeping pretty good. We still have to wake him in the middle of the night to give him some water with pear juice and then Tylenol with codeine.

Here he is this morning after taking a nap after breakfast.

We love you Jacob!

Connor makes us laugh…

January 17th, 2011 by Donnie

He does this often, but this incident took the cake (and we were still laughing as we went to bed last night)…

I had been playing with Connor on the floor for a good hour or so…then I decided I was going to take a break.

Mommy had been playing with Jacob for a while so we both were a little tired.  Connor was playing by himself but was having a little difficulty with one of his toys, so he gave his “sad look”.  Mommy took it “hook, line, and sinker” and Connor was ready to “hook her”.

Mommy, “Connor, do you want Mommy to play with you?”

Daddy (trying to give Mommy a break), “No, he is fine…he can play by himself for a little bit.”

In a split second, Connor turns to me raises his finger to his mouth and says very softly but very determined:

“SSSHHHH…..my Mommy wants to play with me.”  (It did it as nicely as possible, was not bratty, but was determined to get his Mommy to play with him.)

Mommy starts laughing…I start laughing…and of course Mommy played with him.

You had to be there to enjoy the moment…it was FUNNY!

3 years old

Wow!  Time sure does fly bye!  I can’t believe it!  Our “1st baby” is growing up!  He is such a big help with his brother.  He loves Jacob very much!

Yesterday at church, he sits down beside me near the end of Mass, rubs Jacob on his head, give him a kiss, and then he puts his arm around Jacob and sits next to me.  I think Mommy appreciated it a lot…because she had one of those “picture perfect moments”…her “3 boys” sitting together and loving one another in our church clothes too!

Connor had a party on Saturday and his Aunt Catherine made the coolest cake in the world! (Here is a plug for her…I heart cake VA)  She made Bob the Builder and Scoop by hand too.  The “dirt” was crushed Oreo cookies.
