Jacob spending time with Daddy

November 24th, 2010 by Donnie

This is a little bit long, but you can see how active Jacob is. He interacts quite a bit with us and around the 3 minutes mark in the video, he starts to smile.

The way he watches the camera reminds me of how Connor used to “play for the camera”.

Sleeping through the night…

November 19th, 2010 by Donnie

Jacob has slept through the night (8pm until 6am) for 7 straight nights now. He is also starting to enjoy/accept the pacifier a little bit more which helps soothe him.

He has been off his medicine for an entire week and has been doing great. He is still sleeping in his car seat (to keep him elevated) to help with the acid reflux. Next is tackling the laying flat in the pack-n-play and crib when it is nap/bedtime. We will slowly start to reintroduce that this weekend.

Mornings are by far his best times…but now he is starting to smile pretty much anytime you ask him to. Of course, Mommy can get him to smile much quicker/easier when she asks.

We love you Jacob!

My greeting when I come home…

November 19th, 2010 by Donnie

When Connor is not napping, he usually meets me outside when I come home.  I usually get a big smile and a big hug from my boy as he is excited to see me.

In order to remember this 20 years from now, I turned on the video camera on the cell phone and recorded it yesterday.  Of course I didn’t get the typical hug because he seemed to be preoccupied looking in the direction of Abby and Isaac’s house, but I still got the excited run to Daddy and smile.

I love you Connor!

Two GREAT nights back to back…

November 14th, 2010 by Donnie

Jacob slept from 8:30pm until 6:30am Friday night and Saturday night. So, since I have the late shift I got some “extra sleep”.

He wakes about 5am and makes noises and plays. By 6am or 6:15am he starts to fuss a little bit so then it is time to feed him.

He is definitely sleeping better. Last night was the first night he has gone with his medicine in about 5 weeks. We have made his formula a little thicker and have some different rice cereal (with pro-biotics) to see if that has helped. We also keep him upright quite a bit so the spit ups are limited.

He seems to be doing much better and his growing fast — already in 6 month clothing and going to size 2 diapers very soon!

Jacob and Daddy time…

November 14th, 2010 by Donnie

Jacob can be quite fussy from 6:30pm until 7:30pm or so just about every night.  Keep in mind I only see him from 4:30pm until 8:30pm Monday thru Friday — 1 hour of those 4 hours is spent trying to make him happy.

Mommy has an unfair advantage because he is a much happier baby in the morning.  (I think he takes after Mommy because Daddy and Connor are NOT morning people.)

On the weekends, I get the night shift and the morning shift to give Mommy a break and so that I can see my boy in a much better mood.  Here is our playtime after his 6:30am feeding this morning.  I’ve been saying to him over the past couple of weeks, “Are you happy boy?  Can you smile for Daddy?”  and he has started to smile back most times.  This morning, prior to getting the video camera out he was really smiling on request and “playing” with me.  Once the camera came out he seemed to be a little shy.

I love you buddy!

A trip to the zoo

November 14th, 2010 by Donnie

On Saturday, we took the boys to the zoo. Connor had a good time and especially liked the monkeys in the indoor exhibit.

Connor’s school pics

November 9th, 2010 by Donnie

Connor had his first school pictures taken this year and we got the packet today.

We are going to buy some, so don’t turn me into the “copyright police”.  I just wanted to share them with you as quickly as possible.

Daddy needs to be trained…

November 7th, 2010 by Donnie

For nearly 3 years now, Connor has been doing a good job of training us.  Now it’s Jacob’s turn to train us.

Jacob has been doing much better with the acid reflux over the past 3 weeks.  Once last week he slept nearly 9 hours giving Mommy and Daddy a much needed and deserved rest.  For the past couple of weeks, Jacob wakes up around 2am for a late night feeding and then promptly goes back to bed and wakes up around 7am the next morning.  Mommy handles the night shift during the week and Daddy handles the night shift on the weekend.  That has been working quite well for us.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have noticed that Jacob was getting fussy around 7:30pm.  We would try to comfort him, but he seemed to be agitated/frustrated.  We have been going through the same routine…change the diaper, walk him around, rock him, shhh him, etc…  Nothing seemed to work.  So after about 30 minutes of doing this, we then would break out the bottle.  Normally Jacob drinks 4-5 ounces…during this feeding, he takes about 2-3 ounces and then promptly falls asleep while being burped on my shoulder.

So you may ask why don’t’t we “go for the bottle” sooner?!?!?!  Well, it is because he usually goes 4+ hours in between feedings and he usually gets fed around 5:30pm or 6pm.  Then he starts to get fussy around 7:30pm…that is only 1.5 to 2 hours…way too early.  Well, it has taken two weeks and basically the time change for Daddy to realize that Jacob wanted to be “topped” off before he went to bed.  This evening Jacob got fed 5 ounces at 5pm…then at 6pm (only 1 hour later) he starts to get fussy.  Remember with the time change, it really feels like 7pm to Jacob.  So, I prep a bottle and give it to him.  2.5 ounces, burp, and he’s out.

I then took him upstairs and put him to bed.

Ok Jacob…I get it…top you off at 7:30pm and then put you to bed…

Love,

Daddy
