Bandages are off

September 20th, 2009 by Donnie

We took the bandages off on Friday without any problems.  We are quite skilled at this now.

If you remember from the last time, it took us nearly 1 hour and a phone call to the doctor to get the bandages off after the 1st surgery.

This time it took us just 15 minutes and it was far less traumatic on Connor (and Mommy/Daddy).

Connor continues to move around as if nothing has happened to him.  The catheter will be until Monday/Tuesday.

“She did it…”

September 16th, 2009 by Donnie

A light note from the surgery this Monday…

They called us back to the recovery room and we soon heard our little boy crying.  Mommy held him for a bit but because of his strength and unhappiness she soon gave him to me.  We both sat there for what seemed like an eternity trying to calm him down.  A lot of his displeasure had to do with the nurse standing at the bed filling out some paperwork as we were holding him in the glider (like a rocking chair).  The nurse soon realized he was not going to quiet down until she went elsewhere to finish her paperwork.  Soon after she left, he quieted down and then took a little nap as we waited to talk to the doctor.

After talking to the doctor and being reassured that 2nd surgeries are quite common with the severity of Connor’s 1st surgery, it was time for us to get Connor dressed so we could leave.

As we were dressing Connor (he was awake by then), he spotted the nurse at the table filling out the paperwork.  As we stood him up to pull up his shorts, he pointed over to the nurse and started mumbling (as if to say, “she did it…she is the mean one.”)  I could not help but laugh at that moment and said to him, “I know buddy…it is ok.”

It was a lighthearted moment after a very stressful day.  Thanks for bringing a smile to Mommy and Daddy’s face.

We love you!

Thank you!

September 16th, 2009 by Donnie

Thank you to everyone that has called, stopped by my office, or dropped a little get well gift off for Connor.  Connor, you have quite a group of people that care about your every little move and worry about you.

Mommy and Daddy greatly appreciate all the support everyone has given us after Connor’s two surgeries.

Connor is on his way to recovering and Mommy and Daddy are also doing much better.

THANK YOU!

Update

September 14th, 2009 by Donnie

Connor’s surgery required a little more work than originally anticipated.  He is doing fine and is currently napping next to me as I type this.

He has a catheter once again and will have it in for at least a week.

He has 6 weeks of 3 baths a day for 15 mins each and we are hoping he will not need another surgery.

The scar tissue was larger than first thought but was isolated in one location.  The doctor “scoped” the interior section of the original surgery and did not find any problems with that and said there was not scar tissue there.  This is a great sign.

We are just hoping the scar tissue that was removed does not come back or there may be a need for another surgery.

Thanks for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.

Connor visits his cousins…

September 13th, 2009 by Donnie

Connor, Mommy, and Daddy went up to Clifton, VA this weekend to spend time with Mommy’s cousin Sandy and her family.  It was a nice and relaxing trip for everyone and Connor got to see Sierra and Nick (shares the same birthday as Connor).  He really enjoys spending time with them!  They are great with him as well and they help give Mommy and Daddy a break at times as well.  Thanks Sierra and Nick!

The pictures are uploading and should be done in the next couple of hours, so give it a little time if you are online now (8:15pm).

Check out the latest album on the new gallery…

Connor’s 2nd surgery

September 11th, 2009 by Donnie

Connor’s 2nd surgery is scheduled for Monday at 10:30am.

He cannot have food after midnight and then no water or apple juice after 5:30am.  It should only last about 45 mins or so and we will be going home the same day.

The surgery is CHKD in Oyster Point which is less than 2 miles from our house so that will make for a short car ride (to and from).

Only 3 stitches this time versus the 300+ stitches he got last night, so this should be a piece of cake for him.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

We appreciate that!

ODU and Connor’s 1st Football Game

September 5th, 2009 by Donnie

The day finally came and it was a beautiful night for football.  Mommy, Daddy, and Connor ventured over to ODU for their first football game.  Daddy’s plan of attack was just to get Connor through the kick off and anything after that would be a bonus.

Connor was great!  He enjoyed seeing the 82nd Airborne parachute in and deliver the game ball.  Connor even got into the clapping a little bit.  We made it through the first quarter and then headed out to get some dinner.

ODU won the game 36-21 and is UNDEFEATED!!!

Connor got a ODU Football jersey and has about 8 years to grow into it (maybe Grandma can do a temporary hemming job).

Here is one of our favorite pics from this evening.  This was after we left the game and was walking over to get some dinner.  Looks like he was have a lot of FUN!
