All things must come to an end…

September 28th, 2009 by Donnie

For 5 days and 4 nights, Connor and I have spent some precious time together.  I for one am happy that Mommy is coming home, but I am sad that my “one on one” time with Connor is coming to a close.  Sure we get quite a bit of “one on one” time together while Mommy is here, but the past 5 days was different.

I noticed that Connor was definitely more affectionate to me.  All I can think of is that he shares a lot of that affection with Mommy during the day while I am at work.  With her gone, he had to “love” on someone and I was the happy recipient.  I even noticed he was giving Grandma a few more extra hugs than normal.

This was not the easiest of times over the last 5 days.  Ever since the surgery (now two weeks ago), Connor has been having quite a difficult time sleeping at night and during the day (for naps).  He has been in and out of our bed at night and it has been a struggle to get him to take a nap during the day.  We are assuming that he was just a little uncomfortable do to the catheter and healing procesing, so we did our best to accommodate him.  Well, after not getting much sleep Saturday night (because he was in bed with me all night), Daddy and Connor tackled the nap problem and crib problem on Sunday.  He took a nice nap on Sunday in his crib and then went to bed Sunday night at 8:45pm (cried for about 5 mins) and then slept until 8am this morning.  He even stayed in his crib as I got my “chores” done around the house (shower and vacuuming).  He and Daddy are both well rested today and feel great.

The rest of the week was like normal except on was “on shift” 24 hours a day.  I am not going to lie, it is nice to have a 2nd parent around to watch him so you can take a break.  So, I am looking forward to Victoria coming home for that reason but we are really looking forward to Mommy coming home so that we can get back to being a family.  Dinner’s together, trips to the store, and walks in the evening.

So, I enjoyed my time with Connor as we had a blast.  Grandma was there on Friday and Saturday to give Daddy a hand and provide dinner at her house.  Daddy and Connor did Thursday, Sunday, and Monday alone and spent some quality time together.

It is bath time now and then we are heading over to the Blue Bird Gap Farm to have some father-son time before Mommy comes home.

We can’t wait to see you Mommy!

Love,

Connor and Daddy
