Connor’s first bad word…

So Daddy was the one to teach Connor his first bad word.

We were at the table having dinner like we do just about every night (a tradition Victoria and I deeply believe in).  We were having Mommy’s baked spaghetti which Connor loves.  Mommy brought over some fresh out of the toaster oven garlic bread and placed them on the table.  I love garlic bread and grabbed one and preceded to put it right in my mouth.  IT WAS HOT and I said:

“Damn it, that’s hot.” and dropped the piece of bread on my plate.

Victoria laughed at me and told me to be careful.

Next thing I notice, Connor picks up his fork with spaghetti on it and brings it up to his mouth.  Drops his fork back down on his plate and says, “Damn it, that’s hot.”

Of course I go into “explanation mode” on why that is wrong to say and how Daddy was a bad boy.  Connor then thought it was funny so he did it a few more times.  Most things like this we normally ignore and it passes.  Victoria starts saying, “I don’t want him saying this at school.”  So we made eye contact and decided we would not say anything further.  Sure enough, because he wasn’t getting any attention out of it, he stopped saying it.

Boy I am glad it was that word and not any of the other words in my “bad” vocabulary…

Victoria and I can just picture him at school sitting there (after saying grace) and then picking up his sandwich…dropping it back on his plate and saying “Damn it, that’s hot.’  I know his brain is like a sponge, but let’s hope this has gone to a section in his brain that he won’t recall for another 20 years or so!  (I know, wishful thinking.)
