The latest from the “boys”…

April 19th, 2011 by Donnie

Victoria and the boys met me for lunch yesterday. As I walked in, Connor greets me with, “DADDY!” The lady sitting at a table nearby looked up because of how excited he sounded. Jacob started kicking and moving his arms…that was a cool moment…my boys were thrilled to see me. Daddy felt like a rockstar!

Jacob sat in his car seat the entire time…near the end, he started to fuss a little bit and close his eyes and do a fake cry. I swear it was all fake…he was trying so hard to make himself cry but couldn’t. I couldn’t believe it…he wanted out and wanted Daddy to hold him. (No, I didn’t take him out because it was time for us to leave.) But it was something watching him try to get me to “free him”.

Last night Connor helped me build a gate for our new fence. He held the gate in position for me so I could hammer nails in. We were having so much fun and he felt some important. At one point, he turns to me as we are walking to the back of the yard and says, “Daddy, I love you.” I responded with, “I love you too!” (I love that!)

We finished and went inside and had dinner. I finished early and Connor was still eating (as usual) Grandma had made my favorite cake for an early birthday “gift”, so I went to get a piece. As I was cutting into it I heard in a sweet, matter of fact voice…”Daddy, save me a little bit.” I turned around and asked, “What????” with a big smile on my face. Connor responded, “Save me a little bit. Ok?” I did of course.

After my piece of cake, I told Mommy that I would be taking Jacob to Target with me (because Connor needed to finish eating and then Mommy was going to give him a bath). Connor’s brain starts turning and he says, “Daddy…wait a few minutes.” I responded, “What???” Connor – “Wait a few minutes so I can go to Target with you and then you can give me a bath later.” (As if a bath is a special treat for me…which it is, but he was really trying to sell it me waiting a few minutes so he could go to Target.) I just laughed.

It is truly to amazing to see how much Connor has grown and that Jacob is not too far behind.

I love you guys!
Daddy
