Happy Father’s Day
Well, tomorrow will be a first for me and something I am looking forward to. For years, I have stressed the importance of family and the importance of giving rather than receiving. I am usually the first in line to make someone else feel special or to do a good deed for someone else (especially a family member). Well, tomorrow is going to be the first time I truly sit back and receive. I am going to receive love from my son and my wife. (From what I understand, Victoria and Connor have a special Father’s Day planned for me.)
A year ago at this time, I couldn’t even imagine what the next 12 months of my life would be like or how I would prepare let alone adapt to having a child. Well, the preparation went pretty well and I feel adapting never really happened. What?!?!? Did I really say that? Some of you might be a little perplexed and might reread that statement, but it is truly. I don’t feel I had to adapt to having a child. I would not call it “adapting”, since I feel it was more instinctual for me. I mean, the love, patience, and fatherly ways all just came naturally to me. I didn’t have to fight it, I didn’t have to find it, and I surely didn’t have to fake it. I just had it. “It” is the love and joy I have for my son.
There are two words that sum up the last 12 months — pride and endless love. I am so proud to be a father and proud to have such an amazing son. I also have an endless amount of love for Connor. Words cannot describe it, but hopefully every time I hug and kiss my little boy, he knows how much I love him.
As I laid Connor to bed tonight, it was the first time he was wide awake as I laid him down. I turned on his mobile (lights and music) and just stood in the doorway watching him for a few minutes. He started to arch his back trying so very hard to roll over. Was this going to my Father’s Day gift — Connor rolling over for the first time. It was not to be… But, he did manage to turn himself completely around in the crib. Victoria and I just stood in the doorway and watched. What an amazing son. My only wish on the eve of my 1st Father’s Day, is to provide an equal amount of pride and joy to Connor as he bestows upon me each day.
Connor you are truly amazing and I am proud to be your father!
Love,
Daddy
