“Mr. Hurricane”

March 19th, 2008 by Donnie

Grandpa started to call Connor Mr. Hurricane about 1 month ago. Here is the story behind the name…

We were over Grandpa and Mimi’s house visiting Victoria’s family (her Aunt Lizzie and Grandmother were visiting from Florida). Brenna, Chad, and Catherine were visiting as well. There were a few times that Brenna began to cry and Connor just slept right through it. He pretty much slept through everything that day. Grandpa said Connor could sleep through a hurricane and then began to call him Hurricane and then it transformed into “Mr. Hurricane”. Grandpa has continued to call him this especially this weekend when he stopped by and spent time with me and Connor. “Hello, ‘Mr. Hurricane'”, Grandpa would say. Of course Connor just continued to sleep. I was using an impact wrench (loud noise) to remove the tires from our SUV and it didn’t phase Connor one bit as he lay asleep in Grandpa’s arms.

Well, Victoria and I took Connor out to the mall tonight. Victoria and I were shopping for clothes (for ourselves, since Connor owns half of all the clothes in Babies R Us). Well, we walked all over the mall for a good two hours and he was asleep in his stroller the entire time. We then went over to have dinner at Red Robin. Red Robin has got to be one of the noisiest restaurants I have ever been in. Connor just slept away. So, now I can understand why Grandpa has nicknamed Connor “Mr. Hurricane”.

As long as “Mr. Hurricane” continues to sleep peacefully and does not become a terror (like a hurricane), I think the nickname can stay.

Thanks Grandpa!

My first girl-friends…

March 18th, 2008 by Donnie

Daddy and Mommy met two couples during their infant care class at Mary Immaculate Hospital (Leo & Colleen and Troy & Rebecca). They are all about Mommy and Daddy’s age (old if you ask me — heck, my Daddy has gray hair — lots of it).

Well, we all went over to Troy and Rebecca’s house Friday night. Troy and Rebecca had Ava 5 days after Connor. Leo and Colleen are expecting Sequoia sometime this week or next. We were there for quite sometime and I got to spend some quality time with Ava. Colleen also held me, so I was pretty close to Sequoia (in her Mommy’s tummy). They are cool girls, but both of their fathers are were telling Daddy that they would be sending a dating application for Connor and that it could not be fulfilled until their daughters were 30 or 40 years old. Bummer!

You can read more about Sequoia here (http://babysequoia.blogspot.com/). Daddy says he will post pictures of Ava and me in a couple of days.

Love you guys and hello to Ava and Sequoia!

First on camera smile and Mommy heard me laugh 4 times today…

March 18th, 2008 by Baby Woodruff

I have been smiling a little bit for the past 2 weeks, but since Saturday I have been smiling a lot more. Mommy and Daddy must have been all pictured out, because they didn’t attempt to snap any pictures of me smiling until this point. Daddy tried tonight while he was changing my diaper. It must have been hard for him to get me to smile and then snap the picture because he only got one picture and it wasn’t me giving my best smile. Hopefully, he will do a better job next time.

Mommy told Daddy that she heard me laugh 4 times during our nap on the couch today. Mommy said she was laughing and smiling at me when she heard it. Daddy thought it was cool, but he wasn’t home to see/hear it so he is waiting anxiously for my next laughing spout (even if I am sleeping).

Drum roll please….

Top 10 list (at 2 months)

March 18th, 2008 by Donnie
  1. Connor not fussing when he is laid down for bed and then sleeping through the night.
  2. Watching Connor and Victoria bond during their feedings.
  3. Having Connor stretch when he is unwrapped from his Swaddle Me blanket in the morning.
  4. Having Connor urinate all over the wall, his father, his mother, or anyone/anything else that gets in the way.
  5. Staring at my son (and having him stare back at me) when I give him a bottle. This was something him and I did quite a bit the first week of his life and something I deeply missed, but now I am getting the chance to do it again.
  6. Having father-son time with Connor when Mommy goes to the gym or out with her Mother.
  7. Reading Connor the same story over and over again, because Daddy is afraid to “break the cycle”.
  8. Talking to anyone and everyone who asks how Connor is doing.
  9. Playing peek-a-boo with Connor last night. He really enjoyed this.
  10. Getting Connor to smile. He now has the ability to pretty much smile when we coax him into it.

2 months old

March 18th, 2008 by Donnie

Wow!  I can’t believe Connor is now two months old.  I can remember talking to my Mom back in November and telling her how if we could “survive” through the first 2 months that Spring would be on its way and Victoria, Connor, and I could start getting out of the house.  I also remember telling my Mom and others that having/raising a baby would be 100 times worse than anything I could imagine.

Well, we are at the two month mark and I would have to say I over analyzed the situation.  Victoria, Connor, and I have gotten into a routine (despite many parents saying it would not be possible) and we have had a very uneventful but VERY rewarding 2 months.

Being older, have a strong marriage, going to infant class, having a strong support group (family AND friends), and having the “perfect son” has made the first two months of Connor’s life (and parenthood for us) quite enjoyable with far less stress and far more sleep than I ever imagined.

So, here’s a Happy 2 month birthday to our little boy!

Guess how hard it was to get this photo…

March 16th, 2008 by Donnie

We must have tried for 10 minutes (and about 50 shots) to get the best shot. This still didn’t turn out perfect (one foot is a little blurry).

But, we thought it was a neat idea.

Sneak peak of the latest photo session…

March 13th, 2008 by Donnie

Alright, I have clothes on Connor this time. Several of you were making comments about how Connor was only wearing rose petals in the last photo shoot, so we had him diapered and dressed this time.

I forgot to mention that during last month’s department meeting at my office, they projected Connor’s “Be My Valentine” picture on the screen for all to see.  I am sure he’ll to hear about that when he is about 16 yrs old.

Here is one pic of Connor celebrating his Irish heritage (from Victoria’s side of the family).
